Mikayla’s New Room
After several months of being dedicated weekend warriors, we have finally finished two bedrooms in our basement.
One of them is Mikayla’s new room. We painted it to her specifications and decorated it with some bright colors and paintings. Her closet is big with lots of shelving and space to put her games and books. One of her favorite parts is the remote controlled ceiling fan/light.
We also finished my office. We had the carpenter make a built-in custom desk with nice built-in shelving on both sides. The desk and shelving are all inset into the closet area of the room, giving me a full space in the room to work. The shelving has lighting underneath, with a separate switch, which gives me the option to control the mood of the room.
Check out some of the photos of the rooms.
Xtreme Wheelchairing
I was checking out some videos on Google the other day and ran across a kid who takes wheelchairs in a new direction. Check out this video of a kid who is pioneering the way for Xtreme Wheelchairing. Make sure to watch the whole thing so you can see the first wheelchair backflip.
Japanese Koi Fish Tattoo – Session 3
Just a few hours before my appointment. I’m a bit anxious to get the entire traditional Japanese koi fish tattoo done, but I know it just takes time and this type of work can’t be rushed. Today’s work will be adding color. Today I want to get the two koi colored in and some of the cherry blossoms but Ron my have other ideas. We’ll see. I’ll get some photos up here in the next day or two.
Updated: Ron focused on coloring the koi. Now that the initial healing is over, the color is really vibrant and beautiful. Check out some of the photos below. My next (and final) session will be in late March. Coloring in the peonis and a little touch-up work will finish this piece off.
(Session Time: ~2 hours)
Updated: Session 4 (the final session) details are now available for all to view. Enjoy!

A Girly Party
Last night Mikayla had a few friends over for a pizza and movie night. See, several months ago Juli and I promised Mikayla a movie party if she would get really high scores from school for 4 weeks in a row…and she did! So we had to pay up.
Oh, and when I say “a few friends” I mean 9 other girls ranging from 8-9 years old. Holy-Cannoli! For three and a half hours it was nonstop yelling, running, chasing and laughing. At one point they slowed down (not really) to watch a movie, High School Musical and chose to watch it in “sing-a-long mode”.
Several times I found myself wondering into my room, closing the door, and watching Rambo. I’m not completely sure why I chose Rambo…but I think I needed to counter-balance the 10 girls singing a musical in the other room.
